Stress

A certain amount of stress is good, and it helps to motivate us and get us the things we need. Too much stress is harmful in many ways. When stress is layered up and doesn’t stop, we call it ‘chronic stress’. Our bodies can be in a constant state of fight or flight. The continuous release of adrenaline and cortisol has far-reaching physical and mental health consequences. Lowering stress levels is the key to good mental health. We work on where you are feeling stress in your body, environment and with other people. Are you in pain? Do you have bowel issues? Have you experienced breathing or heart problems? How is your sleep? How are you coping with stress? Have you found that you are eating more, spending more, smoking, drinking, taking drugs, getting into arguments or putting yourself in high-risk situations? Perhaps you have experienced meltdowns, shutdowns and burnout. We can work on improving your current stress levels and your health generally.

Obsessıve Compulsıve Dısorder

OCD is an anxiety disorder consisting of intrusive, distressing, repetitive thoughts that make a person want to perform different actions or rituals. Typically, OCD is diagnosed when the person does the rituals for more than one hour a day. It is not clear how OCD starts but here are some possibilities: It is genetic, and another member of the family may have it. It started after infection, although the research for this in the UK is still inconclusive. It began after a significant event. Often OCD will be based around the need to clean things or yourself, for example, washing hands, or the need to count, re-arrange or check locks, light switches etc., and if you are distracted, you may need to start again. The more stressed or anxious you feel, the more rituals you may need to perform. OCD is a bully! There is a difference between feeling anxious and doing rituals and enjoying doing things that some people may think a bit strange, but you don’t. Everyone is an individual, as we all are, and many of us do some unusual things – I know I do – so don’t worry; you are perfectly normal.

Shopping, gambling, alcohol, smoking, stealing, drugs, weight issues and overuse of the gym are just some examples of activities that can lead to addictive behaviour. You can become addicted to anything if you spend long periods thinking and planning when you will get the next time, and this behaviour can also affect your life negatively.

Visiting this site means you are taking action, which is a great start to changing your relationship with whatever it is you want to stop or reduce. You may have given up before, and then something has happened, and you are back to where you were. That’s OK, and in fact, that is good because it shows you can change.

Do you remember a time in your life when you woke up in the morning full of beans and ready to start the day fresh and alert? How is your sleep now? Do you struggle to get off to sleep or wake up in the middle of the night once or frequently? Do you feel your brain is foggy in the morning and find it difficult to motivate yourself? Perhaps you are taking medication for sleep deprivation or feel you’ve put up with it for so long that you might as well live with it. There may be a medical reason for your sleep difficulties, so please check with your GP before coming to therapy. Emotional upsets are a significant cause of sleep issues. We can look at your sleep history and see when the difficulties first arose, and then we can work together to find ways to improve your sleep.

Eatıng Dısorder
WhatsApp Image 2023-01-15 at 21.24.23

An eating disorder is a mental health condition where you use the control of food to cope with feelings and other situations. Unhealthy eating behaviours may include eating too much or too little or worrying about weight or body shape. An eating disorder can also be described as a disturbance or interruption to how someone usually relates to food, their weight and how they view their body image and/or body shape. Both boys and girls can struggle and be diagnosed with an eating disorder, affecting children, adolescents, adults and older adults.

Ilkay alici Counselling can help you if you are struggling with an eating disorder to understand your situation better and look at what may be the underlying cause or reason for the eating disorder. In addition to looking at the underlying reasons for your relationship with food, I can help to identify different ways of coping with distress which may help to reduce the need to binge eat. With treatment, most people can recover from an eating disorder.
